Chief Financial Officer / Senior Controller

Our client is a venture capital firm providing strategic value and capital to operating technology companies focused on the real estate market.  They contribute in a direct and significant way to the success of their portfolio companies by leveraging the real estate expertise, operating experience, and portfolio of assets of their partners, investors, and advisors.  The investment team has investing, operating, and technology experience and expertise across a range of real estate businesses, including construction, property management, development, and leasing.  The investors own, operate, and manage many millions of square feet of real estate in the U.S., giving them a unique competitive advantage as an investor and value-added partner in the real estate technology space.

Position Description:



Reporting/Accounting/Valuation Responsibilities

  • Prepare deadline driven reports, including financial statements, partners allocations, capital account statements and portfolio company valuations
  • Manage the relationship with the Fund auditor and oversee outsourced Fund Administration firm
  • Lead data collection and preparation of weekly investment team reports, quarterly and annual investor reports, K-1’s and other ad-hoc communications
  • Oversee LP communications, including the calculation and distribution of investor capital calls and distribution notices
  • Thorough knowledge of private equity partnership accounting, including complex carried interest calculations, hurdle rates, partner allocations, and management reporting, is required
  • Experience with stock distributions, tax distributions and claw back provisions is a plus

 Fund Operations/Internal Management/Fundraising

  • Prepare and/or modify budgets and forecasts to include:
    • Tracking performance metrics utilized by GPs in their fundraising efforts (Ex. Net IRR, Gross IRR, DPI, RVPI and TVPI)
    • Monitor cash balances and prepare cash forecasts
    • Coordinate and execute LP diligence, including completion of questionnaires and responding to data requests

Portfolio Company and Diligence

  • Coordinate portfolio company data collection
  • Support the Investment Team in analyzing companies and driving value to portfolio companies
  • Conduct liquidation analysis at the portfolio company level

 Compliance/Tax Experience

  • Ensure state and local compliance
  • SEC Compliance Experience is a plus (e.g., Form ADV and Form PF)


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA license
  • 5+ years of experience and experience at a venture capital or private equity firm preferred
  • Public accounting experience a plus, preferably at a Big 4 public accounting firm
