They have a legacy portfolio of direct-owned assets as well as a proven track record of wisely investing with “best in class” sponsors to generate above average risk adjusted returns over time.

Position Description:

Our client is seeking a highly qualified Managing Director of Investment Management. The successful candidate will be part of a team and a seasoned real estate professional with a proven track record managing the full lifecycle of joint venture and fund investments across all major property types. He or she will also manage the existing legacy portfolio of direct-owned assets through hands-on decision making and negotiation regarding property management, leasing, capital improvements, and repositioning.  The position is based in Charlotte and reports to the Senior Managing Director of Asset Management.


  • Assume day-to-day responsibility for all joint venture and fund investments as well as existing assets in legacy/direct ownership structures
    • Joint venture and fund investments:
      • Represent the firm’s ownership interests through active management of these investments
      • Provide recommendations as needed for major decisions
      • Maintain knowledge of research and trends as well as political, financial, and economic news to mitigate risk and maximize returns
      • Maintain reports on portfolio-wide holdings and allocations so as to limit exposure and/or risk to any specific segment of the market
    • Legacy/direct owned assets:
      • Serve as the primary liaison with partners; prepare reports and presentations for direct communications
      • Evaluate and implement redevelopment, leasing, capital improvements, and repositioning programs
      • Work with 3rd party property managers on operational issues
    • For both:
      • Promptly escalate significant asset events/issues and propose solutions
      • Review asset financial reporting packages, annual budgets, and investment pro formas
    • As part of the firm’s Capital Control Group, collaborate with team to assist with the underwriting and due diligence process and provide insight for prospective real estate investments
    • Direct participation in the structuring, evaluation, and negotiation of economic terms and managing the closing process associated with transactions
    • Interact with internal financial and reporting professionals to ensure information being sent to management and the board accurately reflects investment performance


  • Minimum of 10-15 years of relevant commercial real estate experience
  • Proven in analyzing, underwriting, and closing real estate investments across a broad range of property types, and delivering above average investment returns
  • Significant experience negotiating terms with joint venture partners, Fund General Partners, and managing ongoing relationships
  • Ability to understand and negotiate legal documents that underlie each transaction
  • Creative and strategic thinker with a strong intellect and a proactive and service-oriented style
  • Superior analytical and quantitative skills with a passion for accuracy
  • Articulate, decisive, and effective communicator (oral and written) who can interact effectively with a wide spectrum of internal and external executives and professionals
  • Comfortable acting as a member of a cohesive team where individuals drive group performance goals
  • Impeccable integrity, trustworthiness, and reputation within the commercial real estate community
  • Undergraduate degree required; MBA preferred
